JTO Saginaw Pump Mount
Tools Needed for Installation:
  • 19mm Socket
  • Ratchet Extension
  • Rachet
  • 5/8" Wrench
  • 1/2" Wrench
  • Torque Wrench
  • Saginaw Pulley Tool (if installing your own pump)

1.   For Safety, disconnect the battery.

2.  This bracket is designed to attach to the front two head bolts (19 mm)  you will  need to access these bolts, so you may want to remove the air cleaner and/or any lines that may be in the way.

3.  Mount the pump on the bracket, adjustment seems easiest when the pump is already mounted in the cradle.  This pump should be a 73 - 76 Chevrolet or GMC truck Saginaw pump.  If you need a pulley or cap, we suggest buying a used one from a junkyard and switch out components and turn the rest in for core.

4.   Remove the front two head bolts.

5.  Remove the adjustment bolt, this will help you maneuver the bracket.

6.   Place bracket/pump in to place, the flat section should mount flush against the top of the head.  Now you can install the front two head bolts.  Only hand tighten at this point, the holes are elongated to allow for adjustment that you will need to make.

7.   We have been vague about the belt size because of variation among engine and their accessories as well as the pulley you install on you pump.  We suggest running a string around the pulley you want to incorporate and measure the distance and buy a belt appropriately sized.  Make sure a measure with the pump as close to the block as possible.

8.   Once the belt is installed, you can move the pump forward or backward to insure that your pulley is in the same plane as the others.

9.   Now you will need to torque the front two head bolts down.  The torque spec is 90 ft/lbs.

10.  Reinstall the adjustment bolt in the top of the bracket.  Tighten the belt for proper tension using the 5/8 bolt at the top of the mount.  This bolt is pushing against the the brace on the pump housing and will tighten the belt.  You may want to recheck this after 500 miles.  If persistent loosening occurs install another nut to use as a jam nut.  If you run out of adjust, install a longer bolt.

11.   Depending on what steering box you are using, you may have to have your line modified.  The fitting size on the Saginaw box is a 5/8 18 male.

12.  Once lines are installed and system bleed you are ready for use.
