Knuckles are like the Peace Corp, the toughest job you'll ever
love. Time, age, wear, big tires, etc simply loosen these up and
rebuilding is the only cure. Once done, they are great.
Here is a common schematic of the knuckle breakdown. Notice that
all you have holding your front wheel on are the two small knuckle
bearings.
